This newly found spider possibly belonging to a new species and has a quite unusual way of dealing with potential predators – by building and hiding behind a giant fake version of itself.

The spider belongs to the Cyclosa family and uses small pieces of leaf, dead insects, and other debris to build fake spiders, complete with legs.

Naturalist Phil Torres found the spider in the jungles of Peru and he now hopes to collaborate with spider specialists to determine if its unique behavior indicates the discovery of a new species of Cyclosa.
