There’s is no shortage of archival film footage of the first moon landing on 20 July 1969 by Apollo 11 and the later six manned U.S. landings between 1969 and 1972.

Graphic designer Christian Stangl created LUNAR by animating thousands of still photos taken from NASA’s Apollo Program archives. He assembled multiple photos to create wider panoramic vistas that could then be animated, finding images photographed in sequence that could be used to create longer animations by slowing and stretching out the motion.

Christian and his brother and Composer Wolfgang worked for 18 months on the film, we think it was a time well spent highlighting what is arguably one of humanity’s greatest achievements.
